5016 - Proficiency-Based Graduation Requirements

Policy 5016 Proficiency-based graduation requirements, a required policy in the SVSU

It is the policy of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union (SVSU), Bennington School District, Inc., Mount Anthony Union School District, North Bennington Graded School District, Pownal School District, Shaftsbury School District, and Woodford School District that all students will need to demonstrate achievement of all proficiency-based graduation requirements before receiving a high school diploma, as the culmination of a Pre-K through grade 12 education. SVSU students may demonstrate proficiency via learning opportunities that take place outside of the school, school day, or classroom, provided that such learning opportunities occur under the supervision of an appropriately licensed educator. These graduation requirements will ensure that all students provide evidence that they have achieved the established learning standards and acquired the knowledge, skills, and work habits that will prepare them for postsecondary education and 21st century careers.

The Superintendent or his/her designee shall work in collaboration with the Principals to develop procedures that carry out this policy and ensure the implementation of the interventions, support systems, extended learning opportunities, and personalized-learning pathways that students need to meet these standards.
