1005 - Identification Card Policy

Policy 1005 Identification Card Policy title box

It is the policy of the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union, Bennington School District, Inc., Mount Anthony Union School District, North Bennington Graded School District, Pownal School District, Shaftsbury School District, and Woodford School District that an Identification program be instituted in each of its schools in order to help assure the safety of students, staff, and community.

The identification of people who have access to our School facilities and buses is only one aspect of safety issues addressed by SVSU district schools. The practice of requiring identification cards for all employees, visitors, and MAU Middle School and MAU High School students can enhance safety and alert school personnel of the presence of potential safety issues. This policy is enacted so that all persons having legitimate business in the SVSU district schools can be properly identified.

It is the responsibility of the principal and or designee of each school to assure that each person required to possess an identification card is supplied with it. Each school, free of charge, will provide initial identification cards. The cost of replacement identification cards and accessories shall be the responsibility of the wearer. The building administrator shall have the discretion to require students to wear or possess ID cards at all times.

Each student attending MAU Middle School and MAU High School will be provided with a photo ID card to identify him/her as a properly enrolled student at the school. This card shall be displayed upon request. A student failing to wear or produce an ID card upon request will be handled under the school discipline procedures. They will be required to carry the ID card with them during school hours and when attending all school events. Students in grade 6 who attend SVSU-wide functions shall also carry and display upon request their School ID cards.

It shall be the responsibility of each teacher to report to the principal any violations of the policy.
