Public Information Coordinator (School Yr. Position)

The Public Information Coordinator (PIC) is responsible for assisting with the creation and implementation of public relations initiatives. The PIC will oversee project management and process issues for the entire Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union (SVSU). Under management supervision, the PIC prepares and provides SVSU promotional information to the community. The position will oversee multi-departmental and/or multi-school projects, and ensure that the SVSU is in compliance with all district policies and procedures.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree (Journalism or Communications or related field) is preferred. 
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in public relations, communications, or equivalent field is required; experience in an academic setting is a plus 
  • Demonstrates understanding of the SVSU mission and practices an open door policy. 
  • Exhibits strong skills in: Communication, Community and Student Focus, Building Relationships, Organizing, Planning, Public Speaking 


Duties (include but are not limited to):
  • Serves as an editorial professional capable of writing and editing copy for myriad projects including news releases, advertisements, brochures, newsletters, posters, flyers, scripts, speeches, webpages and electronic communications. 
  • Write formal press releases for the district and, with final approval from the Superintendent or his/her designee, submit to media as directed. 
  • Performs social media monitoring and administration. 
  • Keep all media outlets up to date on district happenings. 
  • Coordinate the various district activities and events as assigned by the Superintendent. 
  • Attend meetings for or with the Superintendent as deemed necessary for communication purposes with representatives from other school districts. 
  • While this is a full-time, school year position, exigencies related to the district may require additional time outside of the normal schedule (including weekends and evenings).
