PREVENTION COORDINATOR

QUALIFICATIONS –

  • College degree Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, or a related Human Services field highly desired.
  • Certified or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (SAP) or documented experience in substance abuse prevention/treatment education, or school counseling preferred.
  • Excellent Verbal and written communication skills and experience with public speaking. Knowledge of (or willingness to learn about) drug and alcohol prevention and early intervention.
  • Creative approach to teaching and peer education and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, school and/or community based organizations and agencies.
  • Must be able to work independently, use sound judgment and creative thinking; and must be able to handle multiple concurrent tasks.


DESCRIPTION –
  • Plan and organize Parent/Community Events at least three times a year.
  • Advise a Youth Leadership Group on a weekly basis and support the group in implementing an action plan for school improvement.
  • Teach evidence Leadership Group on a weekly basis and support the group in implementing an action plan for school improvement.
  • Teach evidence based prevention curriculum to students gr.6-8.
  • Provide early intervention and educational sessions to students who have engaged in substance use and/or have violated substance policy.
  • Screen and refer students for additional services as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, state, agencies, providers and communities on behalf of our students.
  • Participate in the district-wide health and wellness committee.
  • Collaborate with School Counseling Staff and Student Support services.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and update Student Support Team regarding prevention programs and strategies.
  • Attend community and state trainings as assigned. (ACT and Trainings around Grant)
