Associate Director of Special Education

  • Must hold Professional Educators License with the Administrative Endorsement of Coordinator of Special Education or related area.
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or related area.
  • Administrative experience at the program or building level.
  • High level of knowledge regarding Federal and State laws pertaining to individuals with disabilities and the ability to apply the knowledge locally.
  • Experience in assessing program needs, writing proposals and evaluating programs.

Duties (include but are not limited to):
  • Keep the Supervisory Union informed and in compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and other disability related laws.
  • Supervise and evaluate all mainstream Special Education staff in conjunction with the building principal.
  • Prepare or arrange for the preparation of all reports, records, data and other paperwork required by local, state or federal mandates.
  • Oversee the provision of homebound services for eligible students.
  • Act as the LEA representative in situations requiring administrative approval such as multi-year plans, long-term suspension or expulsion hearings, etc.
  • Work continuously with Special Education staff to improve their instructional skills and other areas of competence through frequent observation, instructional conferencing, faculty meetings and other means.
  • Assist in planning implementing orientation, in-service programs and other professional development activities for all Special Education staff including paraprofessionals.
  • Assist Director of Special Education with the administration and oversight of Special Education funding.
