Community Input on Federal Funds

The Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union (SVSU) receives federal funding through Title I, Title IIA, and Title IVA for supplementary services to meet each school’s goals for improvement. Funds are used to strengthen educational services beyond district expenses, drive reform, and improve results for students. The federal mandated uses include:
  • Adopting rigorous standards and high-quality assessments
  • Establishing data systems and analyzing data for improvement
  • Increasing teacher and school leader effectiveness – including technology integration
  • Coaching and mentoring teachers
  • Turning around the lowest achieving schools – including intervention services, evidence based academic supports, Pre-K support, before and after school supports, homeless educational supports, and parent involvement activities in each school.
  • The SVSU uses their Title II funds to provide professional development. In particular, funds are used to provide continuous, ongoing training that helps teachers understand academic subjects and learn strategies to help students meet high academic standards.
  • Other uses:

Federal Title I funds are allocated in proportion to the socio-economic needs of each school. Parents and community members are welcome to give input to the SVSU on the use of federal funds within the mandated guidelines for the annual application (end of June).
